Few things have illustrated just how much the Nashville skyline’s changed over the past few years like the above gif being passed around Twitter last week. The headline: From 2011 to 2017, we’ve become a much taller, tighter city.
That fact was underlined again this week, as the 505, downtown Nashville’s newly crowned “tallest residential building,” held a topping out ceremony. Rising 45 stories and about 545 feet, the mixed-used tower should welcome its first residents in October.
While tall and imposing buildings are nothing new to Nashville — we can trace our skyscraper history back to 1905, when the building that’s now the Courtyard Nashville Downtown went up — the rush of residential skyscrapers has been growing, in a fittingly big way.
Most — even the 505 — are dwarfed by Nashville’s tallest building, the AT&T tower better known as the Batman Building, which stretches 617 feet. But our residential skyscrapers will still make you crane your neck, and that’s only getting more true.
Want some more specifics? Here’s a look at the tallest residential buildings in the city now (all trailing a bit behind the new 505), plus a few that are in the works, so you can get a sense of what moving on up in Nashville looks like:
